ILLEGAL: Motors that were seized by Corporation officials in Tirunelveli on Tuesday.

TIRUNELVELI: To ensure uniform drinking water supply in all areas, corporation officials of Palayamkottai Zone, led by Assistant Executive Engineer Samuel Selvaraj launched surprise raid in some areas under ward 25 to seize four motors fitted in the domestic drinking water connections.

Since most of the residents have fitted motors in the drinking water connections illegally, the local body is unable to supply drinking water to all areas, triggering protests every day. Following this development, officials of Palayamkottai Zone have started conducting surprise checks to detect and seize the motors fitted to the drinking water connections.

When the officials led by Mr. Samuel raided some of the houses on Daniel Street, Puthupettai West, South and Middle Streets, they confiscated four motors, including the one from the house of an advocate. Besides, the drinking water connections to these houses were disconnected temporarily.

“Only after paying the fine and assuring that they would not fit motors again to the drinking water pipeline connection, it would be reconnected,” Mr. Samuel said.

When similar checks were conducted recently at V.M. Chathram and Thimmarajapuram, 10 motors were seized.

“Since we’ve decided to conduct the check in an unbiased manner, we appeal to the public to inform us about the motors fitted to the drinking water connections in neighbouring houses. They can contact 94422 01301 in this regard,” Mr. Samuel said.
