Voicing their woes: Plantation workers staging a demonstration at Dunsandle Estate, near Sholur, on Tuesday. Udhagamandalam: Hundreds of employees of the Dunsandle Estate near here abstained from work and staged a demonstration in support of their demand for higher wages. Minimum wage notificationReferring to a minimum wage notification issued recently by the government, they said that disbursement of wages should be in accordance with it. Meanwhile the management of the estate pointed out that the wages for June calculated as per the existing settlement had been offered to them on Monday. However the employees had refused to accept the wages. The government notification cannot be implemented because the estate and all trade unions representing the employees are parties to a wage adjudication proceedings pending before the Special Industrial Tribunal, Chennai. SecurityIn view of the strike there was tight security in the area.
