ALAPPUZHA: An ambulance, parked in the car porch of Shiv Sena State-level office-bearer Pallikkal Sunil’s house, was gutted under mysterious circumstances at Kattanam under the Kuruthikad police station limits, near Kayamkulam, early on Tuesday morning. According to the Kuruthikad police Mr. Sunil was taking part in a ‘saptah yagna’ at Alappuzha when the incident occurred. Sunil’s family members woke up to the sounds of the wheels of the vehicle exploding at 3.30 a.m., sources said. The police are learnt to have recovered a plastic bottle with petrol and a matchbox from near the vehicle. The ambulance service, under the aegis of the Shiv Sena, was slated to be launched on July 16 at Kayamkulam. The incident, which triggered mild tension in the region for some time, prompted senior police officials including Superintendent of Police C.H. Nagaraju, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) (Special Branch) T. Suresh Kumar, Chengannur DySP B. Ravindra Prasad and District Crime Records Bureau DySP T. Gopalakrishnan to rush to the spot. The police said the situation was under control.
