CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday expressed concern over deteriorating social and moral values and said it was high time more attention was paid towards the upbringing of daughters. Releasing “Beti”-- a compilation of poems against female foeticide -- written by Sukriti, a plus two student of DAV Public School, Thermal Colony, Panipat, at his residence here, Mr. Hooda urged the people, especially the members of the Arya Samaj, to launch a mass movement to eradicate social evils like female foeticide. He said Swami Dayanand, the founder of Arya Samaj, had also laid emphasis on promotion of female education. Mr. Hooda appreciated the initiative taken by the young girl to write emotional and thought-provoking poems on this vital issue. He hoped her poems would go a long way in awakening the people against this social malady. He said his regime had taken many steps to check female foeticide but public support was imperative to give impetus to this campaign. The book has been edited by the girl’s father, Dr. Dharam Dev Vidyarthi.
