Edward L. Nazareth MANGALORE: Konkani Kutam, Bahrain, a voluntary forum formed for promoting Konkani language, literature, and culture, has chosen the head of department of orthopaedics of Fr. Muller Medical College, Edward L. Nazareth, for the Konkani Kutam Award. Initiated in 2002, the award carries a citation and a purse of Rs. 50,000. It will be presented to Dr. Nazareth at a function to be held here on July 12. The convener of Konkani Kutam, Bahrain, Richard Moras, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the winner was chosen after analysing and evaluating Dr. Nazareth’s significant contribution to the Konkani cause. Mr. Moras said Dr. Nazareth is well known for his service as a health educator of the common people and for his writings on health, short stories and other articles. The choice was made by a jury consisting of the editor, “Raknno Konkani” weekly, Francis Rodrigues; director, daijiworld.com Melwyn Rodrigues; editor, “Mithr”, Lloyd Rego; and Konkani writer and novelist Victor Rodrigues. Mr. Moras said the Director of Fr. Muller Charitable Institutions, Patrick Rodrigues, will present the award at Sandesha Foundation, Premnagar, Bajjodi.
