THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has appointed Superintendent of Police, NRI Cell, as the nodal officer to look into the problems faced by women going to the Gulf countries in search of jobs, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said.
In a written reply to a question in the Assembly on Tuesday, he said the complaints received at the cell were being investigated by a special team led by an officer not below the rank of SP. The cell also ensures that the complaints are addressed and the local police take adequate steps in this regard. Of the 1,107 complaints received in the cell till date, 277 are yet to be disposed of. He said the cell took steps to ensure the safety of relatives of NoRKs and their properties in the State.
