Whole village turns out for farmer’s funeral

NELOGAL (Haveri district): The funeral of the farmer, Puttappa Honnatti, who died on Tuesday morning after battling for life for almost a month, was held here in the evening. He was critically injured when police fired on protesting farmers in Haveri.
While the whole village turned out for the funeral, the government was represented by Ministers C.M. Udasi and Basavaraj Bommai. Members of various organisations, including the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, were present. The mortal remains arrived around 5.30 p.m. The funeral rituals began only after 7 p.m. Mr. Udasi and Mr. Bommai handed over a compensation cheque of Rs. 2 lakh to the bereaved family.
