BANGALORE: Housing and Muzrai Minister S.N. Krishnaiah Setty on Monday said that the Government had sanctioned Rs. 50 crore for developing infrastructure on Chamundi Hills, including guesthouses, parking lots and gardens around the Sri Chamundeswari Temple.

The entire area would be declared as a notified area to protect the prime land, he said.

Mr. Krishnaiah Setty told presspersons that the department had sanctioned Rs. 250 crore to protect the sanctity of Muzrai temples.

Following complaints of irregularities while accounting for hundi collections, two teams of trusted devotees would be deputed while opening hundis, he said.

He said steps would be taken to recover encroached temple lands. He would discuss the issue with the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police, the Revenue Commissioner and the Muzrai Commissioner.

He said that the cost of construction of a house under the Ashraya scheme would be raised to Rs. 50,000. He would take up the issue with Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

In the next five years, 15 lakh houses would be built. Instead of individual houses, apartments would be built in view of shortage of land, he said. He said that 15 lakh applications had been received as on 2001-02.

He denied the allegation that he (his construction company) was involved in financial irregularities which was being probe into by the Central Bureau of Investigation. He said that some members had taken home loans and had furnished false details to avail themselves of loans from a bank and there was no connection between the bank and his company.
