CoD inspector caught

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police on Monday caught an inspector from the Corps of Detectives (CoD) while he was allegedly accepting Rs. 30,000 from a relative of the accused in a case of dowry death. This is the third time that this policeman has been caught, it is said.

Ramadurgaiah, working the CoD’s Anti-Dowry Cell, allegedly demanded Rs. 1 lakh from S.M. Irfan of Tumkur. Irfan is a relative of Imtiyaz and five others who have been held for allegedly causing the death of a woman. Ramadurgaiah allegedly demanded money for not harassing the accused. It is said he agreed to accept Rs. 30,000 and asked Irfan to bring it to his house in Pramod Layout in Nayandahalli.

Ramadurgaiah, who joined service in 1981, was accused of accepting bribe when he was in the Central Crime Branch in 1997. He was also accused of accepting bribe when he was police inspector at the Kengeri Police Station in 2004. The two cases are before a special court.
