Condemnable

Monday’s attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul was a heinous and outrageous act of senseless violence which deserves to be condemned in the strongest terms. It marks a new and dangerous phase in the battle between the Afghan government and extremist forces which resent the presence of outside powers, especially India, who are actively engaged in the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan. A resurgent Taliban and elements of the al-Qaeda have upped the ante in recent months with a spate of suicide bombings hoping to dent the resolve of the international community.

India’s best response would be to stay committed to the development activities. The need of the hour is for us to redouble our commitment, strengthen our resolve and work closely with the international community in assisting the Afghan people to combat the menace of terrorism.

Navin Muralidharan,

It was shocking to hear that we lost two senior officials in the suicide attack. Yet another blow to democracy and peace. One wonders whether such dastardly acts of terror will ever end.

It is clear that the Taliban backed up by a hostile intelligence agency was behind the blast. But such acts cannot shatter the morale of the Indians engaged in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.

The ghastly attack on the embassy in Kabul was undoubtedly aimed at dampening the morale of the Indian officials working for the reconstruction of Afghanistan. I would like to pay glowing tributes to all the officials who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

J. Meghanath Reddy,

Hyderabad

It is unfortunate that the Afghan government could not provide adequate security to those engaged in the reconstruction of the country.

V. Vijayendra Rao,

The Afghan government should view the matter seriously, given that many Indians are working in missions and development projects in Afghanistan.

Though such acts of terror will not deter our government from continuing to help in rebuilding a country devastated by terrorist attacks, it is time the Afghan government took serious initiatives to tackle terrorism.

R. Sekar,

Visakhapatnam

While the horrendous suicide attack on the embassy in Kabul exposes a terrible security lapse, it also highlights the fact that the dreaded Taliban is once again on the rise and is out to frustrate Indian efforts at re-building the troubled country. It is the responsibility of the Indian government to counter its nefarious designs and provide foolproof security to its personnel working at tremendous personal risk.

M.K. Bajaj,

Zirakpur
