Left withdrawal

The withdrawal of support by the Left parties to the UPA government is unfortunate and untimely, especially when the G-8 summit is on and the price index is up. The Indo-U.S. nuclear deal should not have become a tool of destabilisation.

With the Samajwadi Party supporting the government, there is no immediate threat to it. Political realignment is imminent.

T. Prabhakara Rao,

Machilipatnam

If the UPA government was keen on going ahead with the nuclear deal, notwithstanding the Left parties’ threat to withdraw support, it ought to have done it much earlier. Did the Congress think-tank feel it could convince the Left Front to agree to the deal?

N. Ramakrishnan,

Chennai
