GJM plea to Buddhadeb

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Gorkha Janamukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung on Tuesday urged West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to take the initiative for holding tripartite talks in New Delhi “for an early solution on the Gorkhaland issue.”

In effect, he has turned down yet another suggestion of Mr. Bhattacharjee for bilateral talks as a first step to resolving the stalemate in the Darjeeling hills.

The GJM has been demanding the creation of a separate State comprising Darjeeling district and certain areas contiguous to it in the Terai and the Dooars regions of north Bengal.

In his letter, Mr. Gurung requested Mr. Bhattacharjee to communicate to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil the need to hold tripartite discussions.
