Tiruvarur Collector inspects works

TIRUVARUR: Works are going on a war footing under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Tiruvarur district, according to the Collector M. Chandrasekaran.
He inspected various works taken up under the scheme in Needamangalam Panchayat union on Monday.
He saw the desilting of a tank at a cost of Rs. 3.50 lakhs at Sithambur panchayat and desilting of a canal in the same area at a cost of Rs. 4 lakh.
The canal is desilted for a distance of eight km. He saw tank desilting works at Vellankudi, Keelalavandaseri, Melalavandaseri.
At Vellankudi, people in 68 houses could not watch television programmes because of lack of power supply.
He ordered the officials to restore power connection immediately.
