On a cremation shed path MLA stages protest VIRUDHUNAGAR: The Virudhunagar MLA, R. Varadarajan, staged a protest here against dumping of garbage by Virudhunagar municipality on the path leading to a cremation shed in Kooraikundu panchayat on Tuesday. The MLA was opposed to the plight of the cremation yard. He claimed that the water facility provided at a cost of Rs. 1.10 lakh from the MLA’s Constituency Development Fund, was not put to good use. The fund was sanctioned in 2006-07. The MLA also deplored the condition of a public convenience constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.50 lakh more than a couple of years ago. “Despite not having put it in use, the Virudhunagar municipality has spent Rs. 40,000 for maintenance. The motor pump is also missing,” the MLA said. Bodies foundThe half-burnt body of a 20-year-old woman was found in an isolated place in Sattur on Tuesday. The woman, identified as N. Ramalakshmi of Mettamalai, went missing since Monday. The Sattur Town police are investigating. In another incident, the body of P. Dharaniselvam (32) was found in a well at Mela Avarampatti near Rajapalayam. The police suspect that he would have drowned after an accidental fall.
