Navodaya teachers call off strike
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: Teachers and principals of Morarji Desai and Navodaya schools, who were on a hunger strike demanding regularisation of their services, have called off their agitation after Social Welfare Minister D. Sudhakar assured that he would convene a meeting of teachers’ representatives and find a solution.
G.J. Gupta, convener of Karnataka Morarji Desai and Navodaya Madari Vasati Shalegala Pranshupala Mathu Shikshakara Horata Samiti, told The Hindu that the Minister visited them at Banappa Park and said that the issue would be considered “sympathetically.”
Over 560 teachers, including 150 women teachers and 65 principals, were on strike since Monday.
The agitation was following the government order making Common Entrance Test (CET) mandatory for all the 1,300 teachers of Morarji Desai Model Residential Schools and Navodaya Model Residential Schools, who have been working on a temporary basis for the last 13 years.
