Chanamolu Venkata Rao dead



Chanamolu Venkata Rao

HYDERABAD: Former Minister and Congress MLA Chanamolu Venkata Rao (76) passed away on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.

Mr. Venkata Rao was admitted to a corporate hospital a month ago for treatment of kidney ailment. His condition deteriorated on Monday night and the end came in the early hours of Tuesday. His mortal remains were shifted to Velagaleru in Krishna district for the last rites to be performed on Wednesday.

The five-time MLA represented Mylavaram Assembly constituency in Krishna district. He served as Minister for Roads & Buildings in Jalagam Vengal Rao’s Cabinet and also held important portfolios of Agriculture and Major & Medium Irrigation.

Born on February 1932 in Gollapudi village, Mr. Venkata Rao is survived by wife Ch. Ranganayakamma, a son and three daughters. Mr. Venkata Rao made his electorate debut in the Assembly in 1967 and was returned from Mylavaram constituency subsequently in 1972, 1978, 1985 and 2004.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in a condolence message, expressed grief at the Congress MLA’s death. He said Mr. Venkata Rao was a seasoned politician, who rose from the ranks of sarpanch to a Minister. His concern for the farm sector and contribution for uplift of ryots would always be remembered, Dr. Reddy said.

Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy and Ministers Dharmana Prasada Rao and Anam Ramnarayana Reddy also condoled the death. In a message from London, Mr. Suresh Reddy said Venkata Rao had rendered yeomen service to the State in his long tenure as legislator.APCC president D. Srinivas expressed his condolences on the demise of the senior leader. Finance Minister K. Rosaiah termed the late leader as a man of principles. The APCC has deputed MLC Rayapati Srinivas to represent the party at the funeral.
