Working their way towards becoming leaders



Emerging stalwarts: The elected leaders of SJR Kengeri Public School at their investiture ceremony in Bangalore.

BANGALORE: SJR Kengeri Public School conducted its investiture ceremony here recently. The lighting of the lamp amid an inspiring invocation by the school choir, marked the formal beginning of the ceremony. Sarah Abraham, Principal, RV Public School (ICSE), was the chief guest and she administered the oath to the newly inducted prefectorial board. Vaibhav was elected school head boy, while Deeksha, the school head girl. On behalf of other leaders, they promised to steer the school to greater heights and abide by the rules set by the institution.

Principal Sarada Lakshmi congratulated the newly-elected leaders and reminded them of their responsibilities. She told them to read stories from the Panchantra which would help hone their leadership skills. She also highlighted the importance of teamwork and said that working together would yields good results. Ms. Abraham told the leaders that it was important for them to look where they were heading, if they wanted others to follow them. “Strive to be the

best in whatever you do; set a goal and try to reach it; dedicate yourself to uplifting the name of your school; don’t stagnate and be responsible for your actions, as others will be watching you,” she cautioned.

Academic director Shiva Kumar was present. The ceremony concluded with a dance and the National Anthem.

At Oxford

The investiture ceremony at The Oxford Senior Secondary School (CBSE), J.P. Nagar, began with the beat of the drums and blow of the trumpet by the school band and the choir. Nagaraja Rao, Principal, The Oxford College of Education, was the chief guest. He along with Mariamma. S. Mathew, Principal of the school, pinned badges of responsibilities on the leaders.

Mr. Rao motivated the young leaders to adopt persuasive tactics, acknowledge good qualities of their fellow students, and respect genuine relationships to build a healthy school atmosphere. He said

leaders were not born, but by internalising the right spirit and shouldering responsibilities, one evolves as a leader, who will be followed for his qualities and principles.

Ms. Mathew highlighted the importance of co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities and why the school laid importance on them. Senior teacher Shyamala Murthy proposed a vote of thanks.

At BVB

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Nagarjuna Vidyaniketan, Yelahanka, conducted school cabinet elections recently to make students understand the importance of elections. Students from classes five to 10 exercised their franchise to elect their

leaders. The candidates who contested were given symbols, and set out on a campaign trail to woo “voters” that included their teachers as well. There was an opinion poll as well as an exit poll conducted by Class 10 students.

Adithya Uttappa was elected head boy, while Namrath Hebbar, vice-head boy. Mithila R. Warrior was elected head girl and Arpitha Shetty, vice-head girl.
