In a statement, he said construction workers were being denied benefits due to them. He said registration should be made compulsory for construction workers. ‘Stop memo’ issuedThe Thrikkakkara grama panchayat has served a “stop memo” to Olive Builders to halt their construction works of a private apartment township at Edachira near here following the death of two workers at the construction site on Sunday. According to panchayat sources, work was being carried out on the basis of a no objection certificate issued before the new building rules came in to force. Meanwhile, the builder handed over compensation cheques for the next of kin of the dead workers to the Deputy Labour Commissioner on Tuesday. The relatives of the dead Bengali migrant worker would receive Rs. 4.50 lakh, while relatives of the local worker from Aluva would receive Rs. 4.15 lakh.
