Software engineer killed in accident

TAMBARAM: A 24-year-old software engineer died on the spot when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a the chassis of a bus on Chennai Bypass near Tambaram on Tuesday.

Traffic police identified the victim as R. Prasad working as an engineer in a software company near Porur. Hailing from Thanjavur, he was living with a cousin in Renuka Nagar in Pallavaram.

He is reported to have finished work around noon and was returning home. At Pulikkuradu, the vehicle hit him and in the impact, he came under it. Though the victim had strapped a helmet, he was hit on the neck by the pinion, one of the gear components under the chassis, and died instantly, police said. The chassis was being taken from Chembarambakkam near Chennai to Karur for body-building works.

On completion of the works, the bus was to be added to the fleet of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation, police said.

S.Kumar, 44-year-old driver, working on contract with an automobile company and hailing from Cuddalore district, was arrested on charges of rash and negligent driving.
