MPs, MLAs taking pains in having quality debates, says Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman HYDERABAD: Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan on Tuesday expressed concern that the work turned out in the legislatures and Parliament were not being appreciated to the desired extent. Though MPs and MLAs were working hard, participating in debates and functioning as members of standing committees on different issues, people still blamed Parliament and legislatures with live telecast of the proceedings. “We do work as Parliamentarians and take pains in having quality debates. But our work is not being appreciated as much,” he said. Mr. Rahman was here in connection with the Parliamentary committee’s visit to look at issues on Wakf properties. At a meeting where he was felicitated, he underscored the need to have Upper Houses in all States as they would enable passage of ‘considered legislations after thorough scrutiny’. Several legislations passed by single house were found requiring amendments later. It was here that the ‘Second Chambers’ (Elder’s Houses) would play a decisive role in taking the legislations forward and make them effective. A.P. Legislative Council chairman A. Chakrapani lauded Mr. Rahman’s contribution in facilitating clearance for reviving the Council here. The felicitation was organised by APCC general secretary D.V. Satyanarayana Rao. Ministers K. Jana Reddy, Ponnala Lakshmaiah and others also spoke.
