Inspector suspended
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Police Commissioner Neelam Achuta Rao on Tuesday placed Yelahanka Police Inspector Prabhu Shankar under suspension for allegedly changing the name of an accused in a charge sheet. The accused had been arrested in connection with the death of an 18-year-old girl.
Shankar was accused of removing the name Murali from the list of three persons charged with causing the death of the girl in February. The inspector was found to have allegedly removed the charge sheet from the court records and replaced it with a new charge sheet, replacing the name Murali with Manja.
The girl had set herself ablaze as she was unable to bear the harassment allegedly caused by Murali and two other persons. The three were accused of making comments and disturbing the girl late in the night. The police arrested the three and later filed a charge sheet.
The girl’s parents accused Shankar of taking money and replacing the name Murali with that of Manja.
On inquiry, the Police Commissioner ordered the suspension.
