The detenu is suffering from blood pressure, says petitioner Action sought against SP for giving “illegal directions” to his subordinates CHENNAI: Justice A. Kulasekaran of the Madras High Court has posted for maintainability on Wednesday, a writ petition by a PMK office-bearer to direct the Director-General of Police to take action against the Superintendent of Police, Ariyalur district, for allegedly giving “illegal directions” to his subordinates. The petitioner urged the court to direct the authorities to provide food, water and medicines to Guru, State president of the Vanniar Sangam, who was arrested on July 5. In his writ petition, R. Balu of Ariyalur district, deputy general secretary of the PMK, stated that after the Magistrate court granted police custody to Mr. Guru, the police attempted to take him without even informing his counsel. Panic among party membersThe police said they need not inform counsel as to where the detenu was being taken, which led to panic among party members present on the court premises. When the party workers protested against Mr. Guru being taken away without his counsel, the police beat them up. ComplaintA complaint regarding the police action was given to the Meensuruti police. The detenu was suffering from blood pressure and regularly taking medicines. The authorities had not provided food, water and tablets to him. He was not allowed even to change his dress, he claimed.
