“Congress played hide and seek on nuclear deal”, says Bose

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: The United Progressive Alliance government is the responsibility of the Congress that has played “hide and seek” on the India-United States nuclear deal; “why should the Left parties be responsible for it?” Biman Bose, Secretary of the West Bengal Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said here on Tuesday. He was speaking after the announcement by Left leaders in New Delhi of withdrawal of support to the UPA government.

“The Centre is busy selling off the country” and this was evident in the nuclear deal when issues such as price rise and inflation were being ignored. The UPA appeared to be turning India into a junior partner of the U.S., Mr Bose said.He pointed out that the Left parties were left in the dark about the text of the safeguard agreement the Centre had negotiated with the Secretariat of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
