BJP calls for better facilities at Sabarimala

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district president T.R. Ajithkumar has alleged that the negligence on the part of the government as well as the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) in improving basic facilities at Sabarimala will make the annual Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival “nightmarish” to Ayyappa devotees.

“With only four months left for the annual pilgrim season, the government and the TDB are still on a collision course. This has affected the arrangements for the festival,” he said at a press meet .

Pampa Action Plan

The Centrally-funded Pampa Action Plan and the Sabarimala Master Plan were still a non-starter, he said. Mr. Ajithkumar said the devotees should not be left to suffer owing to differences between the TDB and the government.

The BJP leader said the TDB should stop toll collection from devotees at Chalakkayam. He said the BJP would launch an agitation, if the TDB continued to collect toll from pilgrims. Mr. Ajithkumar said the TDB should take steps to avoid a possible crisis in ‘aravana’ distribution at Sabarimala during the forthcoming pilgrim season.
