Udhagamandalam
Udhagamandalam: The Chairman, Udhagamandalam Municipal Council, R.Rajendran and the majority of the councillors have in a complaint lodged with the police here on Wednesday sought action against some persons who had allegedly abused and threatened the Chairman on Tuesday. Dispute over the ownership of a piece of land near the arboretum here took an ugly turn on Tuesday. With the civic administration stating that the land extending over about fifty cents belonged to it, a scheme to convert it into a parking lot for the arboretum had been evolved with funds provided by the Hill Area Development Programme (HADP). However when work commenced a few months ago, the local unit of the TMMK had claimed that the land had been alienated to it and it formed part of its burial ground. Consequently the work had been put on hold for awhile until the matter could be sorted out and a decision taken on the matter. With the Hill Area Development Programme seeking details about the progress of the work that had been carried out, work on the land had been resumed on Tuesday.
