A.P. tops in family planning operations

HYDERABAD: It may still be a long way for Andhra Pradesh to achieve its population stabilisation goal, but it has the satisfaction of standing first in the country in conducting family planning operations during 2007-08.
With an estimated population of eight crore, 7.22 lakh sterilisation operations were performed in the State last year, according to Commissioner of Family Welfare Anil Punetha. Compared to densely-populated States such as Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh had done well in family planning operations, he told a media conference here on Wednesday.
