KOCHI: The death anniversary of Victor George, a news photographer, was observed as Journalists’ Day across the State. As part of this, the Ernakulam district unit of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists organised a function here on Wednesday. Delivering a keynote address on the changing dynamics of journalism, senior journalist and political editor of ‘Veekshanam’, P. Sujathan said that journalism has been democratised unlike any other field in the past ten years. Technological developments, mainly the introduction of cellular technology, has revolutionised the way media operate. The production and dissemination of news has changed so also the reading pattern of newspaper readers, he said. Mr. Sujathan said that readers now have more say in the affairs of news and cited the appointment of Reader’s Editor by newspapers like The Hindu in this relation. He said that the skillful use of language would be vital for the survival of media. Vinod Nair, a former colleague of the late photographer, delivered a commemorative lecture.
