Port workers threaten strike

VISAKHAPATNAM: Port and dockworkers in the country have threatened to go on strike from July 16 to press for revision of wages due from January 2007.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, All India Trade Union Congress all-India secretary and State president V.V. Rama Rao said the five federations had served a notice after arriving at a consensus over demands like revised wages, payment of bonus arrears after raising the ceiling, filling vacancies and medical facility to retired employees outside port hospitals.
