IAF officer killed in road accident

BANGALORE: A 36-year-old officer from the Indian Air Force was killed after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and hit a stationary lorry on S.M. Road near Gangammanagudi on Wednesday.

The police said 36-year-old Wing Commander N.S. Gulia was on his way to his quarters at Jalahalli Air Force Station. The accident occurred around 3 a.m. He died on the spot. He was wearing a helmet. The police said Wg. Cmdr. Gulia, a native of New Delhi, had come to Jalahalli Air Force Station three months ago. He, his parents, and wife are in New Delhi.

Mugged

Four persons assaulted a 40-year-old panwalla and made away with Rs. 6,000 in cash, an ATM card and wrist watch in Ashwat Nagar near BEL Road on Tuesday night.

The police said Radhesham of Uttar Pradesh closed his shop and started walking towards his house which was nearby. Four persons came in car and pulled him into it. They drove the car a few meters and hit him. Threatening him not to scream, the assailants snatched the cash, ATM card and the wrist watch. They abandoned Radhesham and went away. The Sanjay Nagar police are searching for the culprits, who spoke Hindi.

A 26-year-old workman was killed after he was caught in a dye-making machine in a factory in Madiwala on Tuesday. According to the police, T. Kamal slipped and fell towards the machine while rinsing a cloth. He was decapitated. The police are investigating possible negligence on the part of the management.

Jewellery lost

A jewellery shop owner lost jewellery estimated at Rs. 4 lakh while he was travelling in a BMTC bus on Tuesday night. The police said Jai Bharat of Seva Nagar got into the bus with two bags containing jewellery. When he got down from the bus he discovered the jewellery was missing.
