Agent arrested on charges of fraud

CHENNAI: A real estate agent was arrested on charges of swindling Rs.4 crore from his client on Tuesday.

Police said R. Devadas Reddy, of Ponneri, had taken Rs.5.5 crore as advance from Srinivasa Rao of Anna Nagar for the purchase of 750 acres of land in Tiruvallur district. When the land could not be purchased for a long time, Mr. Rao wanted his money back.

The agent gave Rs.1.5 crore and refused to pay up the balance.

Based on a complaint, the Central Crime Branch police arrested Devadas Reddy on charges of cheating. The accused was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody.
