Tension prevails outside court premises Bail plea dismissed ARIYALUR: Pattali Makkal Katchi leader and Vanniyar Sangam president ‘Kaduvetti’ Guru, who was produced before the Judicial Magistrate here on Wednesday, was directed to appear on July 18 in connection with an attempt to murder case registered against him by the Udayarpalayam police. Mr. Guru was taken back to the Tiruchi Central Prison amid tight security. Tension prevailed outside the court premises where his supporters had gathered in large numbers, agitated by rumours that he could be detained under the Goondas Act. The crowd began to disperse after he was escorted out of the court premises. The case pertains to a complaint preferred in March this year by Selvi, a senior PMK functionary then. She had said that an unidentified group had lobbed explosives into the compound of her house at Thathanur Keezhaveli village. Mr. Guru was cited as an accused. But, in an affidavit submitted before the Judicial Magistrate earlier this week, Ms. Selvi stated that the Udayarpalayam police had obtained her signature on a blank paper at that time registering the FIR. However, regarding this case and another attempt to murder case registered by the Meensurutti police, Judicial Magistrate Vijayarani dismissed the bail plea made by lawyers appearing for Mr. Guru. The lawyers argued that in connection with the case at the Meensurutti police station, the complainant, Gunasekaran, had not stated that Mr. Guru had attempted to murder him.
