“For extension of time to depute a police officer to meet Jayalalithaa” “According to court order, the officer should meet her at her residence”
CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the government to file an affidavit for seeking extension of time to depute a police officer to meet the former Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, at her residence to assess the security provided to her.
It also directed counsel for the AIADMK leader to file an affidavit seeking a direction to the officer concerned to meet her at Kodanad Estate where she is staying.
Threat perception
Justice M. Jaichandren had earlier directed the authorities to depute a police officer in the rank of Superintendent to meet Ms. Jayalalithaa at her residence, gather information about the threat perception to her personal security and assess the security arrangements.
Counsel’s plea
When the matter came up, Ms. Jayalalithaa’s counsel A. Navaneethakrishnan said the officer might be directed to meet her at Kodanad in view of the urgency.
Advocate-General G. Masilamani said that according to the court order, the officer should meet her at her residence: Poes Garden. After her return to the city, the officer would meet her.
