NCC on a mission

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group Headquarters, Puducherry will celebrate “Paryavaran Diwas” on Friday.

It would plant 1,000 fruit, medicinal and ornamental plant saplings in various places.

According to a press release, NCC has decided to plant 13 lakh trees across the country on the day. Called “Each One Plant One”, each cadet would plant a sapling and take care of it. The initiative was aimed at protecting the environment, which was facing serious problems owing to deforestation and release of carbon waste in the atmosphere. This resulted in global warming and shortage of water, the release added.

Cadets of the three wings of the NCC Group, Puducherry, would plant saplings in the school and college premises, NCC complex location, NCC Nagar, NCC Training area of Kalapet and Chunnambar. Saplings would also be planted at Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

Conservator of Forest P. Devaraj would inaugurate the programme and plant the first sapling.
