Now police to keep check on ragging

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh police has decided to deploy men and women police personnel in plain clothes around educational institutions to prevent ragging and keep a watch over trade in drugs, narcotics and psychotropic substances. The order has been given by Director General of Police Ashwani Kumar to all DIGs and SPs, a state police release said on Thursday.

The DGP’s order came in the wake of a review meeting of the police department on July 8 by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal who stressed on maintaining discipline in educational institutions.

The DGP has also directed policemen to check noise pollution within a distance of 100 metres of each educational institution and prevent disfigurement of open public places/property under prevention of Disfigurement Act, 1985, the release quoting Additional Inspector General of Police V.K. Dhawan said. — PTI
