Members of KRV stage protest in Gulbarga

Staff Correspondent

GULBARGA: Members of the district unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Shetty faction) staged a protest here on Thursday.

They were demanding preference for Kannadigas while hiring people to work in the Rajashri and Vasavadatta cement factories in the district.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner here, the vedike members alleged that the Rajashri factory located in Malkhed and the Vasavadatta factory in Sedam preferred persons from Andhra Pradesh when hiring workers. They also alleged that the factories were polluting agricultural fields by releasing waste material into them. The members demanded that suitable compensation be given to farmers whose crops had been damaged by this.

The members urged the managements of the two factories to make suitable arrangements for releasing the waste material.

The protest was led by the district unit president of the vedike, Arunkumar S. Patil. Leaders Malliakrjun Subedar and Sharanu Gaduge participated.
