Priority for rural education

HELP: Minister for Commercial Taxes S.N.M.Ubayadullah (right) handing over welfare assistance to a woman at Serfojirajapuram village in Nagapattinam district on Wednesday.

NAGAPATTINAM: The State Government is according priority for education in rural areas and starting schools in villages and upgrading middle and high schools to enable rural students pursue their education there itself, said S.N.M.Ubayadullah, Minister for Commercial Taxes, on Wednesday.

Inaugurating the upgraded Government higher secondary school at Serfojirajapuram village in Vedaranyam taluk in Nagapattinam district, Mr Ubayadullah said that 22 Government schools were upgraded in the last two years in the district. This has prevented dropout of students in villages. He said that 13 middle schools were upgraded to high schools and nine high schools as higher secondary schools in the district.

Mr Ubayadullah also distributed Government’s welfare assistance under various schemes to the beneficiaries in the taluk. U.Mathivanan, Minister for Dairy Development, who presided over the function, said that the Government schools had achieved good pass percentage both in the SSLC and Plus Two public examinations this year in the district and many students had secured district level ranks.

He pointed out that an awareness had already been created among the people in rural areas to send their children to schools.
