College requires permanent Principal to keep a watchful eye on irregularities in admissions, said plea filed by former teacher NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has directed the Governing Body of St. Stephen’s College here to immediately appoint a permanent Principal. A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice A.P. Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar asked the Governing Body to appoint the Principal in keeping with the University Grants Commission guidelines. The order came on a petition by a former teacher of the college seeking a direction to the Governing Body to appoint a permanent Principal before the start of the admission process for under-graduate courses for the new academic year. The petitioner had filed the plea before the beginning of the admission process submitting that the college required a permanent Principal to keep a watchful eye on irregularities, if any, in admissions. Counsel for the University submitted that his client had asked for three names from the college authorities for appointment of an Officer of Special Duty in place of the Principal as a stop-gap arrangement but they refused to send the names. When he submitted that the University could take action against the college if it refused to honour its directive, the Court said it was at liberty to take action if it felt so.
