CPI activists demand house sites

IN SUPPORT OF SHELTERLESS : CPI activists staging a demonstration before the Puducherry Collectorate on Thursday.

PUDUCHERRY: Activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Thursday staged a protest demonstration before the Collectorate demanding early steps to provide house sites for the roofless in the town and its suburbs.

A large number of women participated in the demonstration led among others by national council member of the CPI R.Viswanathan and secretary of the Puducherry unit of the party N.Kalainathan.

The activists raised slogans demanding issuance of pattas for the land used by the poor and downtrodden to construct houses, besides providing house sites for the roofless.

They also asked the government to construct tenements to meet the requirements of thousands of urban poor.

A similar protest demonstration to highlight the demands was staged by the CPI activists near the Collector’s office in Karaikal. Demonstrations would be held shortly in Mahe and Yanam also, party sources said.
