‘Decision taken for effective implementation of programmes’ 2,500 accounts assistants to be appointed for gram panchayats BANGALORE: The State Cabinet on Thursday decided to appoint development officers for all gram panchayats for effective implementation of rural development programmes. Briefing presspersons on the decisions taken at a meeting of the Cabinet, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Shobha Karandlaje said some panchayats had budgets of Rs. 40 lakh a year for development works and some others even up to Rs. 1 crore. For efficient utilisation of resources, it had been decided to recruit development officers for all 5,628 gram panchayats, the Minister said. While recruiting candidates, preference would be given to engineering graduates (BE) and diploma holders. Graduates in other disciplines were also eligible for apply. Eligible in-service candidates would also be promoted as development officers, she said. A decision had been taken to appoint 2,500 accounts assistants for maintaining accounts of gram panchayats. A decision had been taken to set up a Cabinet sub-committee to look into the regularisation of services of about 17,000 daily wage earners. The committee had been asked to submit a report in two months. The Kumaraswamy Government had constituted a Cabinet sub-committee, headed by H.D. Revanna, to look into the regularisation of services. But the panel had not submitted its report, Ms. Karandlaje said. The Government also announced compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to the family of Puttappa Honnatti, a farmer, who died on Tuesday. The farmer was injured in the police firing in Haveri on June 10. A decision was also taken to provide a job to Honnatti’s wife in Haveri district and free education to their children. The Cabinet decided to implement the revised pay scale for judicial employees in the State. The decision was taken following the directive of the Supreme Court. The apex court had fixed pay scales for all categories of employees, Ms. Karandlaje said. The National Judicial Pay Commission, headed by the former judge of the Supreme Court, K. Jagannatha Shetty, had submitted the report on pay scale to judicial employees to the Centre. In another decision, the Higher Education Department has been asked to fill vacancies in the Vani Vilas First Grade College. The college is run by the Vani Vilas Sugar Factory Education Trust at Hiriyur in Chitradurga. The Infrastructure Department would oversee the development of the Hassan greenfield airport, which was hitherto looked after by the Public Works Department, she added.
