TIRUCHI: The Pattali Makkal Katchi was being subjected to vindictive actions by the State government, party founder S. Ramadoss claimed on Thursday.

The government was instigating the police to foist cases one after another against the Vanniyar Sangam leader Kaduvetti J.Guru, Dr. Ramadoss told reporters. “Law and order has deteriorated badly in the State, with murders, kidnappings and other crimes going unchecked. Instead of trying to improve the situation, the police were concentrating on booking Mr.Guru under false cases.”

The PMK, especially Mr. Guru, would not be cowed down by the repressive measures of the government, Dr. Ramadoss said after visiting him in the Tiruchi Central Prison here on Thursday.

“Mr. Guru is cheerful and even consoled us,” Dr. Ramadoss said. Accompanied by the party president G.K. Mani, Dr. Ramadoss met Mr. Guru at the prison for about 15 minutes in the morning.

In the event of Mr. Guru being detained under the National Security Act or Goondas Act, a delegation of PMK’s Union Ministers and MPs would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Secretary to draw their attention to repressive measures of the State government. There was no ground for detaining Mr. Guru under those Acts. The Collector and the police should act impartially. The DMK, he said, was angry as he was pointing out the shortcomings of the government. An extraordinary situation had been prevailing in the State with people’s attention being diverted through the distribution of freebies.

Answering a query, Dr. Ramadoss said he would impress upon the Congress to explore the possibility of forming an alliance without the DMK and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for the Lok Sabha elections.
