Vaiko seeks action against Gingee Ramachandran

J. Venkatesan

Submits original affidavits of 72 persons to Election Commission to prove forgery

New Delhi: The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), led by its general secretary Vaiko, submitted to the Election Commission here on Thursday original affidavits of 72 persons, in whose names Gingee N. Ramachandran of the rival group had filed forged affidavits claiming that they supported it.

The Commission while holding that the MDMK led by Mr. Vaiko is the real MDMK and entitled to use the party name and its reserved symbol ‘top’ had stated that it would take up separately the issue relating to filing of fake affidavits by Mr. Ramachandran. The Commission passed this order on May 30 in a dispute raised by Gingee Ramachandran in January 2007 that the rival group led by him was the real MDMK.

During the proceedings before the Commission, Mr. Vaiko had produced positive documentary evidence of his strength and proved beyond doubt that he had far superior numerical support in the organisational and legislative wings of the MDMK.

Mr. Vaiko in his April 28 application had requested the Commission to initiate appropriate legal action against Mr. Ramachandran for his misconduct of deliberate filing of forged and fake affidavits to mislead the Commission. He had also brought to its notice that 72 affidavits filed by Mr. Ramachandran in his support had forged signatures and the said individuals had never subscribed their signatures thereto expressing support to Mr. Ramachandran.

Mr. Vaiko had also enclosed individual affidavits sworn by such individual members denying their signatures found in the affidavits submitted in their name by Mr. Ramachandran to prove that Mr. Ramachandran had deliberately forged the affidavits and had committed an offence of forgery.

In response to the April 28 letter, the Commission on July 2 asked Mr. Vaiko to submit the original affidavits of the 72 persons (referred to in the April 28 application), who had denied to have given any affidavit to Mr. Ramachandran.

Talking to The Hindu from the United States, Mr. Vaiko said these 72 affidavits which were returned were submitted again to enable the Commission to take legal action against Mr. Ramachandran for committing forgery.
