Kundli-Palwal expressway on schedule

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Thursday that the 135.65-km-long Kundli-Manesar Palwal Expressway (KMP Expressway) would be completed on schedule by the middle of 2009 at a cost of Rs.1,915 crore.

The total project cost of the country’s longest expressway does not include the cost of land, Rs.630 crore.

Mr. Hooda made an aerial survey of the project and later reviewed the progress of its construction with officers in Rohtak. He said the expressway would serve as a catalyst for growth and lead to greater development in Sonepat, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Mewat and Faridabad districts through dynamic connectivity with Delhi and the National Capital Region. It would also facilitate heavy vehicles to reach the IMT at Rohtak without entering Delhi.

Mr. Hooda said this would be India’s first closed toll system project. There would be two toll plazas at the main line of the expressway and eight toll plazas at the entry and exit points. The concession period would be 23 years and nine months ending on April 20, 2030. The KMP Expressway takes off from Kundli in Sonepat district on National Highway-1 and passes through Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district on NH-10, Manesar in Gurgaon district on NH-8 and terminates near Palwal in Faridabad district on NH-2.

The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation is the nodal agency for the expressway which is being developed on Built-Operate-Transfer basis.
