Rs. 33 lakh for 6,600 fishermen in Pudukottai

Collector inaugurates disbursal

PUDUKOTTAI: A total of 6,600 families of fishermen in the district have been sanctioned a relief totalling Rs.33 lakh for the fishing ban period of 45 days during the summer this year.

Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar inaugurated the disbursement by giving away the relief to a batch of 11 members of fishermen’s cooperative societies of Kattunavadi, Azhagan Vayal and Keezha Kudiyiruppu Mudukku Vayal areas.

Assistant Director of Fisheries K. Kathiresan said each member of a fisherman’s family got a relief of Rs.500.

Grievances day

Taluk-level monthly grievances’ day meetings will be held at select fair price shops in the district to listen to consumers’ complaints on public distribution of essential commodities.

In a press release issued here on Thursday, Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar said that the meeting would be held at the shop in Sembattur (Pudukottai taluk); Lembalakudi (Tirumayam); Vellanur (Kulathur); Melapachakudi (Iluppur); Araiyapatti (Alankudi); Pudu Nagar (Gandarvakottai); Erichi (Aranthangi); Kudikadu (Avudaiyarkovil); and Ravuthan Vayal (Manamelkudi taluk).

The Collector said that officials from the Revenue and Co-operative departments besides elected representatives would participate in the programme. An observer had been nominated for each meeting to ensure follow-up action for the redress of the grievances.

The release appealed to the card-holders to take due advantage of the meeting.
