New Delhi: India on Thursday said it was deliberating on additional security measures for its missions abroad in the wake of the suicide attack on its embassy in Kabul. “We are deliberating on certain additional measures to be taken to ensure security of [embassy] personnel not only in Kabul, but also else where,” Army chief General Deepak Kapoor said here. He did not rule out possibility of deploying Army’s Special Forces on the lines of the U.S. Marine Commandos. “If the need arises, we can certainly think of deploying Special Forces in addition to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) men already there.” The ITBP was doing a good job, [of providing security to embassies] Mr. Kapoor said India would see how best to secure its missions, if there was greater threat to its buildings and personnel. “We will see if there is a requirement to review [the security]. If there is heightened requirement and if the ITBP requires assistance, the Army will provide it. We will also look at deploying special forces,” he said on an event to distribute welfare measures to disabled ex-servicemen and widows of Army men killed in action. Agreeing to indications from Afghanistan that the attack on Indian embassy was carried out by a foreign intelligence agency, he said: “It is a well-planned, pre-meditated, and pre-planned [attack].” — PTI
