NEW DELHI: Tintu Luka and S. R. Bindu were eliminated in the semifinal stage of the women’s 800 metres of the World junior athletics championships at Bydgoszcz, Poland, on Wednesday. Tintu came third in her semifinal heat in 2:06.51 after leading in the opening lap (1:00.07) while Bindu finished seventh in her heat in a time of 2:10.28. The top two in each of three heats plus two “fastest losers” qualified for the final. The poorest timing among the qualifiers was 2:05.43. Tintu, a trainee at the Usha School of Athletics, incidentally, has a best of 2:05.21, clocked this season. Allyson Leonard of Britain, led the qualifiers into the final with a time of 2:04.07.
