Kolar MLA holds grievances meets in villages KOLAR: Kolar MLA R. Varthur Prakash has set out on a “meet the people mission” to understand the problems faced by the people. Mr. Prakash who finished one round in June, has launched another round of meets on Wednesday. The MLA is organising grievance redressal meetings at major hobli levels and at villages. While on the one hand it serves as a means to express gratitude to the voters, on the other it also serves as an effective way to know the life of the people, Mr Prakash says. “Though it is not possible to meet each and every person personally, at least I can interact with representatives of local bodies such as gram panchayats and some of the people of the particular areas,” he said. The meetings are also aimed at streamlining the administration at the grassroot level. ”Within one and a half months as a MLA, I have noticed lot of shortcomings in the administration at both the taluk and local levels. Major surgeries are needed to streamline them in order to provide a responsive administration to the people,” Mr. Prakash told The Hindu. While hearing the grievances from the people at the meetings, Mr Prakash, who is also Chairman of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board, gives instructions to the officials concerned to solve them at the earliest. “Poor people should not be put into trouble by demanding bribe from them or making them to run from pillar to post to get their works done,” Mr. Prakash warned the authorities. Arabhikottanur, Rajakallahalli, Holerahalli, Dinnur, Dhanamatnahalli, Narasapur, Kurki, Ramasandra, Jodikrishnapur, Vemgal are some of the villages and hobli centres where such meetings were held. During his visits the MLA learnt about the woes of people in rural areas, particularly about drinking water, health and roads. “Though I could not become a Minister in B.S. Yeddurappa Cabinet, I am now happy with the post of chairman of water board,” Mr Prakash said adding it was a blessing in disguise for him. “I will concentrate on solving drinking water problem in the district. The Yergol drinking water project will be expedited,” he said.
