Police pickets posted in Ariyalur PMK MPs to meet Manmohan Singh TIRUCHI: Pattali Makkal Katchi leader and Vanniyar Sangam president ‘Kaduvetti’ Guru was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) on Thursday. The recommendation made by Ariyalur Superintendent of Police V. Krishnamoorthy was accepted by Collector R. Sudalaikannan, and the order served on Mr. Guru at 3 p.m. in the Tiruchi Central Prison, where he is in judicial custody in connection with cases registered against him in the Ariyalur, Udayarpalayam and Meensurutti police stations. The “inflammatory” speech that Mr. Guru had allegedly made during January this year at Ariyalur on a party forum was cited as the ground for his detention. The evidence in the form of an audio tape and a compact disc, the police say, show that Mr. Guru had threatened to eliminate Union Minister for Communication and IT A. Raja and Andimadam MLA Sivashankar with a motive to foment violence. Heavy police pickets have been posted in various parts of Ariyalur district as a precautionary measure and bus services to certain parts of the district restricted. PMK founder S. Ramadoss criticised the detention of Guru saying the NSA was meant to prevent activities prejudicial to the security of the State. “Vindictive action”The party MPs would soon meet the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister and apprise them of the State government’s “vindictive action,” he said.
