Thiruvananthapuram: The tour of Kerala by the Red Ribbon Express for spreading awareness on AIDS and HIV should be described as a success based on the statistics released by the authorities. The Kerala State AIDS Control Society said here on Thursday that 51,604 persons viewed the exhibition arranged in the train during its 12-day tour of the State and sojourn in seven stations. It provided leadership training in HIV control to 2,485 staff from the governmental and non-governmental sectors in 42 batches. It also gave counselling to 1,357 persons, of whom 1,162 were men. Some 148 persons sought treatment at the centre for sexually-transmitted diseases set up in the fifth coach, of whom 124 were men. The artistes of the cycle caravan travelling with the train visited 288 villages and presented programmes for spreading the message against AIDS. These programmes were attended by 1,13,039 persons.
