Fishermen stage demonstration

RAMESWARAM: Various fishermen associations of Rameswaram island on Thursday staged a demonstration protesting against the harassment meted out to fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy during their detention for a day recently.

Micheal, father of Santhiyahu, who was killed in a recent firing incident at sea, led the agitation held at Pamban. Relatives of the fishermen who were killed or injured were among those who participated. Some district-level functionaries of various political parties also took part.

Speakers criticised the Sri Lankan Navy for “gunning down” innocent fishermen of Tamil Nadu.
