CHENNAI: The State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) has started relaying and improving the 12.5-km road on the Siruseri IT Park campus. The Rs. 50-crore project, to be completed in the next 8-9 months, will help IT professionals have a smooth ride from the city. Besides, the SIPCOT is creating an additional entry and exit route, towards Kelambakkam, (a few metres away from the existing one) to regulate traffic. Though it is possible to travel from Madhya Kailash to Siruseri with ease after the completion of the main six-lane carriageway, it will be difficult to travel the last km on the campus, as there is no road at all. Commuters’ complaintsFollowing complaints from the commuters, the SIPCOT has taken the work at a cost of Rs. 50 crore, with ASIDE (assistance to state for developing export infrastructure and allied activities) chipping in with Rs. 40 crore. The Siruseri park is spread over 900 acres. The SIPCOT has allotted land to 79 information technology, biotech and hardware electronics companies. More than 11 firms, including Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, Polaris, Xansa and Patni Computer, have commenced operations, employing more than 3,000 people, and another 35 firms have taken up construction activities. Soil stabilisation“As of now, we have only 70 acres of vacant land, and it will be allotted soon. We have been getting complaints regularly from the commuters about the bad road conditions. When we visited the spot, we found out that there was no road at all. We have taken up soil stabilisation, relaying the entire stretch and improving the inner roads to provide road links that match the quality of Rajiv Gandhi Salai,” SIPCOT Chairman and Managing Director N. Govindan told The Hindu. After reviewing the work, Mr. Govindan said soil stabilisation would be completed in 30 days. Thereafter, relaying and road improvement would be taken up in phases.
